Two psychologists have teamed up together to find out how accurate Americans views are towards memory, compared to what research has actually proven. Their findings, published in PLoS One, show that in many areas, people don’t really understand many aspects of memory, and because of that, tend to make mistakes in critical areas such when serving on juries.

How the Memory Study Worked

The two, Daniel J. Simons and Christopher F. Chabris, both psychology professors, teamed up and hired a professional poll company, SurveyUSA, to call random people that they believed represented a cross section of the American people. SurveyUSA found 1838 people who were willing to answer a short survey asking general questions about memory. They also asked for some other general information such as education, income level and whether they had participated in a psychology study before.
